A Seed Company on a Mission for Change: Seed Needs' Commitment to Quality and Giving Back

Seed Needs, a seed company dedicated to providing gardeners with quality products, has been in operation since 2010. The company has shipped millions of packets of flowers, herbs, vegetables, vines, wildflower blends, seed packet collections, and seed packet favors to satisfied customers across the US.

With the success of their brand, Seed Needs has kept its promise to continually donate to different organizations and personally sponsor children worldwide each month. The company has grown its sponsorships from just one child to over 100 children in just a few years, and they sincerely thank all who support them, as it wouldn't be possible without their customers.

The Snowball cauliflower, an excellent source of fiber and vitamins, is a garden staple that is easy to grow during the cooler months when other crops have been harvested. This hardy, low-calorie superfood is a classic American plant that has been known to exist in the country for about 200 years, although it has only become a culinary staple in the last couple of decades.

Introduced in America during the 1940s, the Snowball variety of cauliflower is known for its versatility, being used for spring, autumn, and early winter production. However, as a Brassica, it can attract a variety of pests, including pigeons and certain breeds of moths. A good preventative measure is to plant the cauliflower under a screen or mesh, eliminating the need for too many insecticides.

Cauliflower is a cool-weather crop that can be started indoors or directly outdoors. If started indoors, the seeds should be sown in starter pots 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost. If started outdoors in the spring, the seeds should be sown just before the last frost, or in mid-summer for a fall harvest. The sowing area should be tilled, removing all unwanted plant life and weeds, and the seeds should be sown at a depth of 1/4 inch in rows about 10 feet long.

The plants require full sunlight for at least 6 hours daily and should be grown in fertile, well-drained soil. To improve drainage, a light compost can be added to areas with hard, compact soil. Daily watering is necessary to ensure the seeds receive enough moisture to germinate properly.

Cauliflower seeds typically germinate within 7 to 14 days after sowing, and the plants will grow to about 2 feet tall, spreading about 12 inches wide. They can be spaced 18 inches apart from one another, in rows spaced 24 inches apart. The Snowball Y Improved variety will produce 6 to 8 inch, dense, heavy heads that are hidden within its green-silver leaves, and it is ready for harvesting in about 80 days.

Seed Needs' packets are beautifully illustrated, providing the common name, scientific name, seed quantity, and specifications about the variety to be grown. The reverse side of the packets contains full growing instructions, including information on sowing the seed, growing conditions, and germination and growth. Each packet also includes a QR code for easy reordering.

Seed Needs is committed to providing high-quality, non-GMO, untreated seeds stored in a temperature-controlled facility free of moisture. The seeds are always packaged for the current and the following growing seasons, and they are true to the variety advertised, with 99% pure seed and no added fillers. The company never knowingly purchases or supplies genetically modified seed products and does not treat any of its seed products with substances such as neonicotinoid or thyram.

In addition to their commitment to quality, Seed Needs is also proud of their philanthropic efforts. With the success of their brand, the company has been able to grow its sponsorships from just one child to over 100 children each month, and they continually donate to St. Jude Children's Hospital and the ASPCA.
